The problem: Original rubber-sheathed wiring in the ceiling voids, one socket per room downstairs and a fuse board with no RCD.
What we did: Full rewire over five days, working room by room so the family could stay in. New 18th-edition consumer unit, RCBOs on every circuit, extra sockets in the kitchen and living room and smoke alarms wired in and interlinked.
Result: Certified, tested and the EIC issued the same week. Plaster made good, no chased walls left open.

What Stockport wiring is usually like

Stockport is a mix of Victorian and Edwardian terraces around Heaton Moor, Heaton Chapel and Edgeley, 1930s semis out towards Bramhall and Cheadle and newer flats in the town centre. The older stock is where we see the most work: rubber or fabric-covered cable still buried in walls, no earthing to the lighting circuits and rewired kitchens spurred off ring mains that were never designed for them. If your fuse board is a grey or cream box with rewireable fuses rather than switches, it predates modern regs and won’t have RCD protection.
